Not much going on in terms of transfers. So much so, that newspapers started making things up again. They never really stopped, by they still manage to fascinate me by posting entirely unconvincing stories, like the one linking us with Matuidi. The story (more like a short message) was run in the Telegraph and said that "according to the reporters" Arsenal are interested in signing the French international. It is as though the fact, that we do have money, means we're going to buy every single footballer (regardless of his availability).
Onto more positive (and reliable) news, some of our players spoke up, the first being Santi Cazorla. Nothing groundbreaking, he's just again highlighted the importance of our run-in and the need to carry the positive attitude it created into the new season. Also, though he wasn't the first one here (see Giroud), Santi expressed his confidence in us challenging for the title, even with the players we have. Seems a bit far-fetched, but here you go.
Meanwhile, Laurent Koscielny has once more denied his link to Bayern, emphasizing that he's happy at Arsenal and that there are still four years left on his contract, meaning he's not going anywhere. Yet.
Kieran Gibbs, who seems to be singing from the same hymn sheet as Santi, added some freshness to the proceedings, though, by talking personal progress and his surprise at not being called up to the England squad. The bitterness was clear, giving how good a season he had, but Kieran managed to find the positives in Hodgson-free sommer. What a character. I, for one part, think it'll only do him good, staying as far as possible from the national team. No new injures, a full recovery and a good pre-season. What's bad in it? Look at Santi. Being the only player to take part in every Premier League game (with only one substitute apperarance to his name), he looked a bit jaded towards the end, but had to soldier on. Now he's forced to represent his team at the stupid Confederations Cup. A have a bad feeling he might just break down, like Whilshere two years ago. The intensity of a new league, some fifty games played in total and now this. Let's just hope I'm wrong here.
And finally, I think I ought to mention Arshavin. He looks to have sealed the deal with Zenit, which will see him earning twice as less compared to his Arsenal wages and tie him down for two years. He will join the Russians at July 1. The player himself said he's happy to return and to just play football. The best of luck to him. I always thought he's a huge talent and was surprised it didn't work out for him at the Gunners. Hard to say, where it has gone wrong. To me, it looks like a row with Wenger, rather than Arshavin's laziness, unprofessionalism or whatever.
